What Should I Do If My Device is Infected?
If you're infected, go into the SETTINGS of your texting app and DISABLE the AUTO-RETRIEVE feature (un-check box). And yes, you'll have to manually click on the DOWNLOAD button whenever you receive a MMS from one of your trusted contacts.
Another way to keep safe is to use; FireFox, Chrome or Opera on your smartphone for web browsing vs the built-in web app. In the meantime, you'll have to wait for your smartphone manufacturer or service carrier to patch the Stagefright vulnerabilities. The best defense against being compromised is to make sure that you don't advertise your cell phone number on your website or via social media (forums, emails, etc).
